Project 3 Create ART for a Public Digital Forum

You will create an art work for an existing digital art forum. You will research possible forums for your work. Then, you will write a proposal to a hypothetical site manager. Finally, you will create the work proposed.

Approach this assignment as though you were a practicing digital artist looking for a location suitable to display your work. You need to choose the appropriate audience for your work. For example, if you would like to produce a satirical homespun webisode animation you would address a site like www.doodie.com NOT the Whitney Bienniel. Imagine producing work for your dream commission (if you don't have one - MAKE IT UP). Possible projects include work for a curated Web gallery, a dj audio site, an animation festival or a curated digital video site.

Your art work can take the form of an electronic image, a series of images, an interactive game, an animation, a sound design, or any combination of these options. Do NOT create a commercial piece. Do NOT copy existing work. Create original art!

Part 1 (due 10/27)

You will write a hypothetical query letter to an existing journal (or cd-rom, floppy disk, video, etc.) explaining your project and its relevancy to their publication.

Include the name and URL (or mailing address if it's not on-line) in your letter.

Explain how your proposed work would fit in with their journal. For example, you could compare an existing work in the journal that reflects a similar artistic attitude or style to that of your own (include visual examples).

You may post your letter on the web. Be sure to hand in the URL the day the letter is due.
